The cultural property church of the Dominican Order was built from 1700 and 1765 in Baroque style. On the front a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary and in the side niches two works by the sculptor József Hebenstreit can be seen: they depict Saint Dominic and Saint Thomas Aquinas. Later the building complex became the property of the Order of Saint Paul and then it belonged to the Congregatio Jesu. During the great flood of 1838 the church was inundated by two metres of flood water and since the end of the 19th century both the inside and the outside of the building have been renewed several times. Due to recent renovations, the shrine is now in its original beauty, and the restoration of the majority of the formerly whitewashed paintings on the walls and the ceiling has also been accomplished. The painting of the main altar was renovated in 2021: it shows Saint Dominic accepting the rosary from the Virgin Mother. The church has belonged to the Gödöllő Premonstratensian Abbey since 2018.

The Organ of the St. Michael Church

The first organ standing in the Baroque church in one of the most renowned inner city streets called Váci street on the Pest side of Budapest was constructed by the organ builder József Herodek in 1801. In 1893 this one manual instrument was extended and rebuilt by the Jägerndorf Rieger Company who kept the original late Baroque front and the mechanical system. In 1951 the Budapest Rieger Organ Factory renovated the instrument and reconstructed some of its sets of pipes.

Currently the organ has 25 pipe sets on two manuals and a pedal board. At the top of the organ case Baroque statues of King David playing a harp and two angels can be seen.

The instrument is the oldest working organ in Budapest. Its beautiful sounding and structure make it suitable for performing a significant part of organ literature on it. Its sound and aesthetics are in a harmonious unity with the interior of the church.
